Blues Videos

Part of my preparation for the Port Townsend Blues Violin Workshop led me to start a blog in blues videos. Among the videos I’ve selected from YouTube, several have included blues violinists and fiddlers. Vassar Clements, Mark O’Connor, Eddie South, Ray Nance are among the hero blues artists featured.

Smallest Fiddle Circle

This is a fiddle circle composed of one fiddler, Tim O’Brien. I am impressed by the high quality of singing and playing at the same time as he performs Working on a Building. Something I’ve tried a bit and found it very difficult. Now I’m inspired to take another swing at it.

Both as singer and fiddler, Tim O’Brien does a great job.

Hello Fiddler!

Welcome to Fiddle Circle. This is about fiddle instruction, tips lessons. See what is current and feel free to comment on it.

Comments not clearly responsive to the post will be marked spam. You know what that means. You never get to post a comment again. If you are a spammer, you don’t care. You just move on.

If you are a fiddle student you will naturally write something about learning or playing the fiddle. That’s the whole idea.

My first big offering is news about the Blues Violin Workshop at Centrum. There is an impressive line up of teachers for all blues instruments.

I’ve been preparing choice material for presenting to students. Tunes to be played and taught include, Milk Cow Blues, St. Louis Blues, Florida Blues, Hesitating Blues and more.

Techniques will include many aspects of fiddle or violin playing. Slides, blue notes, pentatonic scales, lowered sevenths and thirds, and much more. Bow technique will go into rhythmic riffs and swing feel, not to mention, finding the “sweet spot.”

If you have any questions, ask Centrum. I’m completely new to this organization. But I think it will be an adventure for both the teacher and the students.
